Dr Sandeep Naik.

Sandeep is currently working at Hutt Hospital as a consultant specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as a Fertility Specialist and Gynaecologist at Fertility Associates Wellington. Sandeep also sees fertility and gynaecology patients at Boulcott Specialist Centre.

Education & training

Sandeep was born and raised in Wellington New Zealand and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Genetics before pursuing medicine and obtained this degree with the University of Otago. He received the Kenneth Pacey prize for the top student in obstetrics and gynaecology in his final year of medicine, confirming his passion and dedication to women's health.

Sandeep spent his early medical career at Middlemore and Auckland City Hospital, two of New Zealand's largest tertiary hospitals. He obtained a post-graduate diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology during this time with the University of Auckland. As part of the specialist obstetric and gynaecology RANZCOG training, Sandeep has worked and gained valuable experience in Wellington, Hutt, Palmerston North and Hastings hospitals.

As part of CREI (Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility — the highest training level for Fertility in Australasia) subspecialty training, Sandeep completed an international fellowship at one of Australia's largest and busiest hospitals — Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. Here he experienced world-leading medical advances and developed cutting edge techniques he has brought into his practice to date.

Beyond the clinic

Outside of work, Sandeep is a sports fanatic particularly passionate about hockey, cricket and the NZ Warriors. He also loves travelling and spending time with his family. He has recently led the implementation of the RANZCOG staff Wellbeing programme at Hutt Hospital, a programme designed to improve staff wellbeing and prevent burnout to ensure staff are in the best position to care for their patients.

Teaching & Research

With a passion for teaching and innovative research Sandeep also holds a role as a clinical lecturer with the University of Otago, Wellington Medical School.

He is the lead author of an international Cochrane review update on Androgens in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), published in 2024.

Sandeep's dedication and commitment to providing accessible medical care to all communities led him to philanthropic work in Vanuatu and India. As part of this work, he published a systematic review.

CREI stands for Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, which is the highest recognised subspecialty qualification in fertility care across Australia and New Zealand. It indicates a fertility specialist (a trained obstetrician and gynaecologist with at least 15 years of medical training) has completed an additional 3 years of advanced fellowship training in IVF, reproductive surgery, and hormonal disorders.
